Read Before you Use Bleach

Bleach is Unstable • Bleach is inactivated by organic matter, light, and time. • EPA requires labeling stating “Degrades with age” • B leach loses up to half its actives within 60 days Bleach is Not an Effective Cleaner • Bleach must remain on surfaces for 10 to 30 minutes. • There is no sustained release of actives. • Because bleach has an alkaline pH of 11.5 Bleach is Corrosive • L ye must be added to stabilize this corrosive chemical • Bleach is a very potent upper respiratory irritant • Mixing bleach with acids releases toxic chlorine gas

Because of its instability, bleach solutions should be discarded every couple of hours.
