School Infection Control Handbook - 2010
Chapter 3: Development of Protocols
Chapter 3.M. Assigning Roles and Responsibilities and Educating School Staff Introduction When the school has determined what the protocols should be, the person(s) responsible for each aspect of the infection-control program must be selected. Staff members should receive training for their own responsibilities but should also know what the other staff members’ designated responsibilities are. This practice will enable them to contact a trained staff person with the proper supplies and knowledge to do the assigned task. In addition to training, it is helpful for staff members to have reminders such as posters and memos to reinforce policies and procedures. This document provides some suggested roles and responsibilities that can be assigned to school personnel so that they may participate appropriately in the infection-control program. These roles and responsibilities may be customized for each school or district. Post written procedures for disinfectant use x Identify locations for posting the procedures. x Post guidelines and posters. x Develop a system to revise the procedures and update staff when conditions, equipment, and products change, and when there is a new infectious disease.
